PRESS RELEASE 2014
NEW Qualification in Paediatric First Aid
Medical and First Aid training may not be high on the list of priorities for some employers but for those working with young children it usually takes on a higher profile.
Babies and young children are unable to express their symptoms and so, when paediatric first aid is required, it is often a very serious situation, which requires immediate attention and a high level of training.
But now, in recognition of this level of importance, the current Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid has been replaced with a new Level 3 Award, reports Mark Stevens, Training Director of BX Medical Training
The new Award is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or through voluntary and community activities, to provide first aid to babies and children, when dealing with an emergency situation, chronic or sudden paediatric illness or paediatric injury.
The course consists of 2 units: Unit 1 covers Emergency Paediatric First Aid and Unit 2 covers Managing Paediatric Illness, Injuries and Emergencies, and focuses on emergency scenarios that are faced by professionals such as teachers, au pairs, registered child-minders, nannies, playgroup and nursery leaders.
Everyone completing the Level 3 training will receive two certificates covering the qualification itself and a list of units in the qualification. The Paediatric First Aid Made Easy Manual, given to anyone attending the course, also supports the new Award, along with the BX Medical Training free post-course helpline.
“The qualification is valid for 3 years and, to remain qualified, people will need to re-take the course and the assessments before that time is up, something the team at BX Medical Training will automatically remind clients about.”
The qualification, which fulfills Ofsted’s first aid requirements for early years teachers, nursery workers and child minders, was added to the BX Medical Training extensive portfolio on its launch date, September 1st and, as always the company will strive to ensure everyone attending has fun as well as gaining their valuable qualification.
